HIATAL HERNIA

A hiatal hernia is a portion of the stomach that migrates through the opening in the diaphragm and resides in the chest. Small hiatal hernias are common and seen in 20% of individuals. Longer ones can promote reflux, increase the risk for Barrett’s esophagus and can cause gastrointestinal bleeding. Seek attention with your physiciation if your hiatal hernia is causing symptoms.
