Acute Pancreatitis
Acute inflammation of the pancreas (AD) presents itself with severe abdominal and back pain
with nausea and vomiting. Pancreatitis is like an abdominal burn with fluid sequestration and
dehydration requiring 3-6 liters of fluid resuscitation in the first 24-48 hours. The two common
causes are gallstone which block the pancreatic duct and alcohol consumption. Lately with the
use of GLP-1 drugs the risk of pancreatitis has gone up. Supportive care is needed and if
gallstone related the patient will need a keyhole surgery to remove the gall bladder-
“laparoscopic cholecystectomy.’
