Constipation
Simply put, constipation is the result of delayed bowel evacuation. Causes include sinister illnesses like
colon cancer or bowel obstruction but more commonly due to medication and/or a motility disorder of
the intestinal tract. Fiber, fruits and vegetable consumption many a times is the cornerstone of therapy,
but certain instances may require the addition of medications to stimulate the bowel helping it move.
Some of the newer therapies are very helpful in management and need careful evaluation and follow
up.
